Hong Kong NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)

The Hong Kong Neonatal Resuscitation Program (HK-NRP) is organized by the Hong Kong College of Paediatricians, supported by the Hong Kong Paediatric Nurses Association and The Hong Kong Neonatal Society. It is a simulation-based training adopted from the NRP of the American Academy of Medicine and is based on The American Heart Association Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (2010).

The HK-NRP Provider Course becomes a mandatory training requirement for all new paediatric trainees joining the College on or after 1st July 2013.

The HK-NRP is organized regularly by the College and involves an online assessment and an one full-day skill-based and simulation-based training.

The HK-NRP Provider Course consists of the following components:-

  • Self Study of the Neonatal Resuscitation Textbook (with DVD);
  • Online Examination, passing with 80% correct answers within 30 days before the one-day skill-based and simulation-based training;
  • One-day of skills training, simulation and debriefing at our designated Training Center. It emphasizes on problem solving, team dynamics and communications during resuscitation.

Those who have successfully completed the cognitive and skills evaluations in accordance with the NRP Curriculum will be issued a Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Provider Card from the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Heart Association, Hong Kong College of Paediatricians, Hong Kong Association of Neonatal Medicine and the Hong Kong Paediatric Nurses Association. It is the first NRP Provider Card issued outside the U.S. by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

The trainers are Regional NRP Trainers recognized by the AAP and they are senior neonatologists and neonatal nurses from various hospitals.
